“The GTO Association of America's Pontiac GTO/GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide” is a compilation of a series of articles authored by Eric White, and originally published in the GTOAA's member's magazine “The Legend.” White has updated and expanded the information that appeared in that series, and has added new information covering the 2004 model year Pontiac™ GTO™. Additional sections cover the subjects of automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, exhaust system parts, window glass monograms, tires, and seat belt identification.

The main body of the book is divided into fourteen yearly sections devoted to the twelve years of GTO and two years of GT-37 production. Each section features subsections covering the topics of: production totals; weights and measures; drivetrain/mechanical components; identification plates and stickers; tires, wheels, and wheel disc covers; options and accessories; and tune-up specifications.

As the book's title implies, illustrations are provided throughout to aid in component identification. Tabbed divider pages separate the main sections. The tabs facilitate locating information, and feature a reproduction of an original factory broadcast sheet of the appropriate year. The book is bound by a wire-spiral system. This method of bindery enables the user to access any page with one hand while allowing the book to remain open when placed on a level surface; a convenient feature when utilized in the process of identifying or documenting a vehicle.
